Patterns

UPDATE: Initially posted in Jan 2017, it is now Jan 2019.  Craftsy has since closed my store in the revamping of their site.  If you are truly interested in a pattern, please email me.  We can work it out via PayPal.  I have not had time to look into posting these on Ravelry, but hope to find the time.  We have recently moved and I am still unpacking as well as working my full-time job.

Thank you

Bulbasaur (Pokémon) Free Pattern and Tutorial

Bulbasaur is a small, quadruped Pokémon with green or bluish-green skin and dark patches. Its thick legs each end with three sharp claws. Its eyes have red irises, while the sclera and pupils are white. Bulbasaur has a pair of small, pointed teeth visible when its mouth is open. It has a bulb on its back, grown from a seed planted there at birth. The bulb provides it with energy through photosynthesis as well as from the nutrient-rich seeds contained within. source

You are probably thinking, "Has she lost her mind?" or "What in the world is she talking about?" Did you know there are over 700 different Pokémon characters?  A while back I made my grandson Charmander here.  One of the ladies at work saw the pictures of Charmander and asked if I could make her son Bulbasaur.  I said, "sure" without even looking at the picture of him (Bulbasaur).

This is Bulbasaur:

Tooth Pillow (round 2)

Back in August 2011 I made this tooth pillow for my oldest grandson. My daughter told me that D still sleeps with it.  He loves it!  Now, J is nearly coming up to the time in life where he will also be needing a tooth pillow.  My daughter said that I should make one just like D's.  So this is what I came up with.

I looked at what scraps of material I had.  I honestly could not even tell you what I used this mottled green for, or for that matter when I used it last!  J has decided orange is his favorite color.  So everything has to have orange on it.  The monster has orange teeth and orange eyes.

Here's a reminder of what the first one looks like.

They are just different enough though that the boys can tell them apart, yet should not argue because they are the same.

What does your family do for the teeth that the kids lose?
Do you have a tooth fairy that comes and pays them for their teeth?

Cat in the Hat - hat

I see on the web where a lot of places celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday.  Which, by the way, if you didn't know is March 2nd. I think all of those Cat in the Hat patterns are simply adorable!  Eventually I found this one by Look At What I Made and I decided to do it up for my grandsons.

I even got our cat to pose!
(OK... well I didn't exactly 'get' her to pose.  I simply took advantage of the situation.)
Sorry that picture is so dark. It was night time, and as you know the lighting is never good at night.  And... getting the cat to pose when you want her to is a challenge!

The oldest will get the red one.
The youngest will get the orange one.  He has decided that orange is his favorite color!

The orange one I used 4 strands of Red Heart worsted weight as opposed to the 2 strands of Bernat Softee Chunky for the red.  The white on both are 2 strands of Bernat Softee Chunky.

I've really been on a crochet kick here lately.

Would you wear a Cat in the Hat - hat?  I think they are fun!  I am pretty sure I would.

Van's for a friend

Have you ever made anything for someone and it turns out to be a memorial?

I recently made these Van's look-like slippers for my grandsons.  When I posted this onto my Facebook page one of my friends saw it and ordered a pair.  She wanted pea green. I saw on the web that Lion's Brand Vanna's Choice had a "Pea Green", but I could not find it here where I live.  So I found this "Seaspray Mist", which is also a Vanna's Choice yarn. I took a picture of it and messaged it to my friend and asked if it was ok.  I told her I could either look more, or I could order it from the web if she really preferred the Pea Green. She said the Seaspray Mist would be just fine!.

Don't you think they worked up beautifully?

I was nearly done with my crocheting of the slippers when her son posted that she had died. Needless to say along with all of her other friends, I was in total shock!  She was young (early 50's). She had had some health issues, but we all thought she was getting better.  I understand she passed away in her sleep.  I was chatting with her on FB the night before she went to visit the Lord.  She is no longer in pain.  God bless my friend.  She was an amazing person.

I contacted her son.  I told him that I was making the slippers for her.  Initially she was going to buy them from me, but I simply could not sell them now.  I asked him if he still wanted me to finish them.  He said yes.

I wonder if these slippers will ever be worn, or simply left as a memorial for a wonderfully kind person?

Rest in peace my friend. Rest in peace.  You are thought about from so many people. I know your husband and you son miss you.  Your friends miss you.

Van's Look Alike Slippers

My two grandsons wear Van's shoes.  I am not 100% sure, but I believe I was strolling along on Pinterest when I saw one of these two pictures and it caught my eye.  (I cannot remember which picture it was!)

I thought those look nice!  I knew two boys that I knew absolutely had to have new slippers!  :)
I ordered the pattern via Ravelry (source) but you can also go to the designer's blog and order from there if you would rather (source).

Check below for photos of the slippers I made for my grandsons...
